How Tiger News counts visits

What Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity record on this site, what they never see, and how to opt out.

When the Advisor turns visitor stats on, Tiger News uses two free tools to learn which pages help people and which ones confuse them. The footer at the bottom of every page says which tools are on.

What they record:

Google Analytics: which pages are viewed, how long people stay, how far they scroll, the type of device (phone, Chromebook, laptop) and a rough location, like the town or region, worked out from the internet connection. Microsoft Clarity: where people click and how far they scroll (heatmaps), and replays that show how a visit moved around the page.

Both tools save small cookies on your device so they can tell a new visit from a return visit.

What we don't do: no ads, no selling data, no viewer accounts, and no names. Google's ad features are turned off. Tiger News can't tell who you are from these numbers.

Never counted: Studio, staff sign-in and the hallway TV screens. The Pitch form is masked, so Clarity doesn't record what you type there.

How to opt out: if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, Tiger News doesn't load either tool at all. Browsers like Brave, DuckDuckGo and Firefox have this setting. Ad or tracker blockers also stop both tools. The site works the same either way.

Questions? Ask the Tiger News Advisor at school, or contact the district office through scasd.us.

Staff: the steps to turn stats on or off are in Studio → Help → Turn on visitor stats.
